Tufenkian to build homes for displaced Artsakh Armenians![]() May 22, 2025 - 17:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government has approved a decision to donate land to the Tufenkian Charitable Foundation for constructing houses for families forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. The donated parcel, located in the Tatev community of Syunik Province, spans 3.41009 hectares and is municipally owned. The initiative, titled “Development of the village of Svarants in Tatev community, Syunik Province,” will be implemented in cooperation with local authorities. It includes building 20 homes for 20 families who have received housing certificates under the government’s May 16, 2024 program. Each family will also receive a barn, furniture, and a solar water heater. Additional plans include installing 34 solar water heaters for other village homes, renovating the administrative building, medical center, and kindergarten, building a playground, and improving the village cemetery. On March 4, 2025, the project was officially recognized as charitable by a decision from the Deputy Prime Minister. The Tatev municipality intends to transfer the land to the Tufenkian Foundation free of charge for this initiative. Following Azerbaijan’s large-scale offensive on September 19, 2023, the authorities of Artsakh agreed to disband their military and dissolve the republic. Over 100,000 Armenians were forcibly displaced to Armenia. Only around 20 Armenians are believed to have remained in Artsakh. The dissolution officially took effect on January 1, 2024. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
