New road to connect villages in Syunik![]() May 23, 2025 - 15:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Following the 44-day war in 2020, the original road linking Goris and the Vorotan community fell under Azerbaijani control and ceased operation. In response, the reconstruction of the Vorotan-Khot alternative route became an urgent necessity. Currently, intensive construction work is underway on this section. A group of journalists, accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, visited the site to observe the progress. The construction is carried out by the "Chanaparh" company, while the design and technical oversight are managed by "Module" company. The project involves rebuilding a 10.3 km road segment at a contractual cost of 4,234,691,588 AMD. Construction is scheduled for 2022-2025, reports Armenpress. The project includes earthworks, construction of artificial structures, and installation of a three-layer asphalt concrete pavement. Work is ongoing. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan highlighted the strategic importance of the Khot-Vorotan road, not only for Syunik but for all of Armenia. “This project is comparatively costly due to its design specifics. Unlike many of our usual projects, this one involves constructing a brand-new road. Progress has been made despite challenges related to terrain, requiring new design solutions. Currently, earthworks are nearly complete, and we plan to move to the next stage of base construction. Issues like water accumulation and rockfalls have been addressed,” said the minister. According to Minister Khudatyan, the new road will be safe and will significantly reduce travel time. It will serve as a central link for many villages in Syunik, benefiting not just Vorotan and Khot, but also neighboring communities. Samvel Lalayan, head of the enlarged Tatev community, added that due to landslides in the area, new architectural solutions were included in the design. Previously, landslides had narrowed the road, but expansion works are now underway, widening it to more than eight meters. “This road will quickly connect Vorotan residents to the Bardzravan community and Shurnukh residents to the city of Kapan. Once the road is built, traffic in this area will increase. If any issues arise, we’ll be able to respond and support each other swiftly. The road will undoubtedly ease agricultural activities, allowing people to return to gardening and market their produce under improved conditions,” he said. ![]() ![]() Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”.
