Armenia initiates process to join BIPM and OIML

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has initiated the process of joining major international metrology organizations to enhance its position in the technical domain.

The government has approved the draft law on the ratification of letters of agreement to become an associate member of the “International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM)” and a corresponding member of the “International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).”

Accordingly, through its “National Body for Standards and Metrology” CJSC, Armenia has begun the process of joining these two prestigious international organizations.

From an economic and trade perspective, this move aims to stimulate international trade, as membership in OIML and BIPM ensures international comparability of measurements—crucial for reducing technical barriers in export and import activities.

It will create equal competitive conditions, enabling Armenian producers to access foreign markets without the need for duplicate testing or measurement certifications. It also boosts investment appeal, as a measurement system aligned with international metrology standards will increase trust in the business environment, encouraging investment. Membership will also align the sector with EU requirements.

Joining these organizations will harmonize Armenia’s metrology system with regional and international standards and improve the country's global technical reputation.
