Armenian, UN officials discuss COP17 preparations

PanARMENIAN.Net - On the sidelines of an annual sustainable development conference in Hamburg, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan met with Guy Ryder, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During their meeting, the two discussed organizational and preparatory matters for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, scheduled to take place in Armenia in 2026.

They also reviewed the UN80 initiative and the process of fundamental reforms planned under its framework. Abisoghomonyan highlighted the productive cooperation between Armenia and the UN office in Yerevan.

He also addressed the ongoing preparations for the Armenia–UN Cooperation Framework Document for 2026–2030, which aims to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Armenia through programs backed by UN agencies.

Armenia has been selected to host COP17 in 2026, taking on the responsibility of leading global efforts under the Convention on Biological Diversity and tackling modern environmental challenges confronting humanity.
