Yerevan’s COP-17 hosting a privilege, says president![]() June 10, 2025 - 14:06 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - During his working visit to France, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Astrid Schumejker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, as part of the 3rd UN Ocean Conference. Their discussion focused on the organization and thematic priorities of the upcoming COP-17 conference of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which will take place in Yerevan next year. Both sides emphasized the importance of such major international events in deepening global cooperation on environmental and broader global challenges. Khachaturyan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness and determination to host the conference at the highest level. “Hosting such a platform is a great honor, but also a significant responsibility and a binding mission for the country,” he said. The COP-17 conference of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity is scheduled to be held in Yerevan in spring 2026. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Stephan Schütz, Executive Partner at Gerkan, Marg and Partners.
