Armenia, Italy sign memorandum on disability rights

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan and Italian Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli signed a memorandum of cooperation in Yerevan aimed at advancing joint initiatives and experience exchange for the protection and social inclusion of persons with disabilities.

The agreement highlights the importance of enhancing social protection policies and international collaboration. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Under the memorandum, cooperation will focus on:

  • safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and improving related services,
  • implementing legislative reforms,
  • promoting an inclusive labor market,
  • expanding independent living opportunities and refining social protection mechanisms.

The collaboration will be carried out through:

  • joint program development and implementation,
  • experience-sharing initiatives,
  • organizing meetings, conferences, research activities, and sectoral discussions.

Both ministers described the agreement as a significant step forward in ensuring social participation and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
