During the meeting, Putin condemned the recent strikes against Iran, describing them as “unprovoked aggression that cannot be justified,” according to Izvestia. “Our position on the current events is well known. The unprovoked aggression against Iran has no basis and no justification,” he stated. Putin emphasized that Russia and Iran maintain friendly and reliable relations. He also added that amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, Russia is making efforts to support the Iranian people. Araghchi arrived in Moscow on the evening of June 22. Previously, it was reported that the purpose of his visit was to hold consultations with the Russian president and other senior officials following the recent military aggression by the United States and Israel. Later, the Iranian foreign minister noted that Iran and Russia are engaged in close consultations to jointly counter common threats. On the night of June 22, U.S. President Donald Trump announced successful strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
