Mild quakes recorded near Martuni, Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 25, Armenia’s Seismic Protection Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported two earthquakes in the Gegharkunik Province near the town of Martuni.

The first earthquake occurred at 21:35 local time (17:35 GMT) with a magnitude of 1.9. It was located 5 km northwest of Martuni at a depth of 10 km. The epicentral intensity reached 2–3 points on the MSK-64 scale. The tremor was felt in Martuni, as well as in the villages of Lichk and Yeranos, with an intensity of 2 points.

Just 37 minutes later, at 22:12 local time (18:12 GMT), a second earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 struck the same area, about 6 km northwest of Martuni, again at a depth of 10 km. The epicentral intensity reached 3 points.

This second quake was felt in Martuni and in the communities of Lichk, Yeranos, Nerkin Getashen, Verin Getashen, and Tsakkar, all registering tremors of 3-point intensity.

Both earthquakes were recorded at nearly identical coordinates: 40.16°N latitude and approximately 45.24°–45.25°E longitude.
