Mirzoyan links BRI to peace project![]() June 27, 2025 - 18:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 26, during his official visit to China, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Wang Yi, member of China’s State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He highlighted the compatibility between China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project, emphasizing the South Caucasus’ significant potential as a bridge between Asia and Europe. Regarding bilateral relations, both parties welcomed the tangible progress achieved in various areas of cooperation. Mirzoyan and Wang Yi affirmed their shared political will to build a broader and more comprehensive agenda, including strategic partnership development, high-level political dialogue, economic initiatives, infrastructure projects, and humanitarian collaboration. The meeting also addressed upcoming high-level exchanges and cooperation within international organizations. Minister Mirzoyan conveyed Armenia’s intention to enhance its engagement within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization framework. In the context of expanding international partnerships, Mirzoyan outlined Armenia’s balanced and diversification-driven foreign policy approach. He also presented Armenia’s vision for establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, noting Yerevan’s appreciation for China’s principled stance on regional peace, especially its commitment to core principles such as respect for territorial integrity. Mirzoyan updated his counterpart on recent discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the normalization of interstate relations and the drafting of a peace treaty. The Armenian government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative focuses on developing transportation and communication infrastructure—roads, railways, pipelines, cables, and power lines—linking Armenia with Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran. These infrastructures will operate under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
