Mkhitaryan remains key figure despite Inter youth push

PanARMENIAN.Net - Inter Milan will determine the future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and several other veteran players following the FIFA Club World Cup, according to Italian outlet FCInterNews.

Despite the club’s ongoing strategy to rejuvenate its squad, Mkhitaryan remains a key figure. Last season, Inter had one of the oldest squads in Serie A, but new owner Oaktree Capital is reportedly committed to lowering the average age and providing more opportunities to younger players, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Nonetheless, the Club World Cup has demonstrated the continuing value of experienced players like Mkhitaryan. He started in two matches and came off the bench in another, while younger talents like Francesco Pio Esposito, Valentin Carboni, Petar Sučić, and Luis Enrique also made their mark. However, head coach Cristian Chivu relied on Mkhitaryan during crucial moments, highlighting his trusted status.

According to the source, Mkhitaryan’s position at Inter is more secure than that of Francesco Acerbi, who is widely rumored to be leaving, and Matteo Darmian, whose role is expected to be reduced to a backup.
