Armenian MP accused of planning terrorism, coup![]() July 4, 2025 - 11:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Prosecutor General’s Office has submitted a request to National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, seeking approval to initiate public criminal prosecution against Artur Sargsyan, a member of the Armenia faction. According to the motion, the General Department for Investigation of Crimes Against the State, Constitutional Order, and Public Security of the Investigative Committee received a report on March 18, 2025, from a senior officer of the National Security Service’s Directorate for Constitutional Order Protection and Counterterrorism. The report alleged that Vazgen Petros Galstanyan, Artur Lavrentiy Sargsyan, Movses Ruben Sharbatelyan, Hayk Samvel Shahnazaryan, Tigran Vahe Topalyan, and Igor Tadevos Sargsyan, along with others, had “agreed in advance to prepare acts of terrorism and to seize power between July 2024 and March 14, 2025.” On the morning of June 25, law enforcement authorities began conducting searches at the homes of supporters of the Sacred Struggle movement. The Investigative Committee stated that members and leaders of the group had planned terrorist acts and an attempt to seize power in Armenia. Later, it was revealed that the movement’s leader, Archbishop Bagrat, was arrested and detained for two months, along with 14 other individuals. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
