Prosecutor: statute of limitations not expired for Ohanyan’s case

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, responding to a question from MP Vahagn Aleksanyan during a session of the National Assembly, stated that the last official act attributed to former Defense Minister and current MP Seyran Ohanyan took place on December 26, 2016.

“The charge we are bringing is a serious crime, and the statute of limitations has not yet expired,” she said, as reported by 1lurer.am .

Her comments came in response to Aleksanyan's query about whether the alleged offense attributed to the opposition lawmaker is subject to a statute of limitations.

When asked about the potential punishment should the accusation be upheld, Vardapetyan replied that the charge includes a custodial sentence.

“The court is the only body that can determine the punishment, but the charge includes a prison sentence,” she stated.

On July 4, 2025, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, following the procedure established by the Constitutional Law on the Rules of the National Assembly, submitted a motion to initiate criminal prosecution against Seyran Ohanyan, a member of the eighth convocation of the Armenian National Assembly. The case is currently under parliamentary consideration.
