Activist Vahagn Chakhalyan arrested for 2 months

PanARMENIAN.Net - Vahagn Chakhalyan, head of the Kamq civic initiative and activist, has been arrested for two months, his son Ruben Chakhalyan announced.

“Political orders never stop against Vahagn Chakhalyan. He has been detained for two months,” Ruben stated, as reported by Panorama.am .

The arrest follows news from July 4 that Chakhalyan had been taken into custody.

According to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, criminal proceedings were launched against V. Ch. under Article 43-419, Part 1, and Article 43-308, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, based on a prosecutor's decision prompted by an investigator’s motion. The charges relate to preparing acts of terrorism and the unlawful usurpation of power, allegedly by leaders and members of the movement called “Sacred Struggle.”

On June 25, law enforcement began searches at addresses linked to “Sacred Struggle” supporters. The Investigative Committee claimed the group’s members and leaders had planned terrorist acts and a seizure of power in Armenia. Later, it was confirmed that the movement’s spiritual leader, Archbishop Bagrat, was also detained for two months. Fourteen others were arrested as well.
