U.S. denies presenting proposal on reopening South Caucasus links

PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. State Department has responded to media claims that the Trump administration proposed a plan to Armenia and Azerbaijan for reopening regional transport links in the South Caucasus.

"The United States supports efforts to enhance peace and stability in the South Caucasus. We have no information to share regarding these media reports," the Department's press office told Armenpress.

Earlier, Carnegie Foundation analyst Olesya Vartanyan, citing two foreign diplomats, stated that a proposal had been made under former President Donald Trump’s administration to establish a route linking Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan through Armenian territory.

According to the sources, the U.S. proposal resembled an earlier EU plan based on a post-2008 war agreement between Russia and Georgia. That framework involved assigning route management across disputed areas of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to a neutral Swiss company, which would then be responsible for sharing logistical data with all involved parties.
