Hasanov: peace deal pre-signing a major step forward

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov stated that the pre-signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington, along with the joint declaration signed by both leaders, represents a significant step toward resolving a conflict that has lasted more than three decades.

Hasanov made the comments during a press conference in Ankara, attended by Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani, according to Report.az .

He emphasized that this historic event has laid the foundation for new formats of cooperation—both in the South Caucasus and on a global scale.

“We aim to continue and deepen the cooperation between the defense ministries of our three countries,” Hasanov said.

He underscored the importance of joint efforts to ensure lasting peace, stability, and security in the region.

Hasanov also noted that the trilateral meeting highlighted the need for a unified response to threats targeting peace, stability, and regional security.

*On August 8, during a trilateral summit at the White House, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration summarizing the results of the meeting.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also pre-signed the “Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in the presence of their respective leaders.*
