Freight transport in Armenia grows 1.6% in 2025![]() November 10, 2025 - 18:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - According to Armenia’s Statistical Committee, the total volume of freight transported in the country from January to September 2025 increased by 1.6% compared to the same period in 2024. During this period, 12.26 million tons of cargo were transported, with 1.64 million tons in September alone. The September figure was 3.9% higher than August and 4.5% higher than in September 2024, reports Armenpress. Rail transport carried 1.21 million tons of cargo in the nine-month period, a 15.7% increase year-over-year. In September, 160,200 tons were moved—2.8% less than in August, but 5.4% more than in September 2024. Rail exports totaled 273,600 tons, 6.6% more than the previous year. September saw 36,700 tons exported. Imports via rail amounted to 587,000 tons (up 10.4%), with 77,500 tons in September. Domestic rail transport rose 35.8% to 346,600 tons, with 46,000 tons moved in September. Road freight totaled 9.7 million tons—up 0.5% year-over-year. September's volume reached 1.37 million tons, 5.7% higher than in August and 5% higher than last September. However, exports by road declined 11.7% to 616,700 tons, with 78,800 tons in September. Imports rose 7.9% to 3.3 million tons (424,900 tons in September), while domestic road transport dropped 1.8% to 5.79 million tons (867,300 tons in September). Air cargo reached 28,900 tons in the first nine months, a 3.2% increase from 2024. September saw 3,800 tons—up 15.2% from August but down 7.3% year-over-year. Exports by air declined 1.3% to 15,200 tons (2,200 in September), while imports grew 8.7% to 13,700 tons (1,600 in September). Pipeline transport moved 1.33 million tons, a 1.8% decrease compared to 2024. In September, 107,700 tons were transported by pipeline. Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision.
