Courts to set 6-month deadline for case reviews

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Minister of Justice, Srbuhi Galyan, has announced that reasonable time limits will be set for court proceedings.

At a forum titled “Improving the Business Environment Through Dialogue,” she revealed that a six-month procedural deadline will be established for first-instance civil and administrative cases.

Courts will only be allowed to extend this deadline with a justified decision.

To reduce caseloads, alternative mechanisms and digital reforms have been introduced in civil dispute resolution. For example, debt recovery cases involving amounts up to 2 million drams have been transferred to notaries or arbitration, resulting in nearly an 80% reduction in civil court workloads, approximately sixfold.

Further steps have been taken toward digitalization. Civil and administrative litigation processes have been fully digitalized, and a digital version of the bankruptcy system is expected to be ready by 2026.

The panel discussion also covered topics such as creating a predictable legal environment for businesses and new approaches aimed at improving judicial efficiency and enhancing Armenia’s investment appeal.
