Constitutional Council reviews gov't formation rules

PanARMENIAN.Net - The latest session of the Constitutional Reform Council, chaired by Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan, focused on proposed regulations regarding government formation, as well as matters concerning environmental protection, sustainable development, and the Armed Forces, according to the Ministry of Justice.

“We previously reached conceptual agreement with council members that parliamentary standing committees should have the legal right to participate in government formation. However, the timing issue remained unresolved, as deadlines for forming committees didn’t align with those for forming the government. Now we’ve stipulated that the government must be formed within a one-month period,” Galyan said, as reported by Armenpress.

She also noted that the constitutional draft introduces the institution of acting ministers, allowing standing committee members to evaluate initial cabinet candidates.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has previously stated that if his administration is re-elected in Armenia’s anticipated 2026 snap parliamentary elections, a nationwide referendum will be held to adopt a new Constitution.
