Georgia plans joint customs with neighbor states![]() January 26, 2026 - 18:46 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced plans to deepen regional cooperation and position Georgia as a center of stability and logistics in the South Caucasus amid shifting trade routes. Speaking about his government’s major initiatives, Kobakhidze stated that, with support from the Asian Development Bank, Georgia is actively working with Armenia and Azerbaijan to establish joint customs checkpoints, reports Pastinfo. He highlighted infrastructure megaprojects, including the East-West Highway, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, dry ports, and the deepest seaport on the Black Sea — Anaklia. The Georgian PM emphasized that these projects will foster economic integration and reinforce regional connectivity. According to him, Georgia provides access to the Black Sea for seven countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, and five Central Asian states. Former Georgian Prime Minister and opposition leader Giorgi Gakharia congratulated Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on recent progress toward peace and welcomed the U.S. role in the South Caucasus. Meanwhile, jailed former president Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on Facebook that Aliyev’s remarks about a transit route through Armenia undermine everything Georgia has achieved. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
