Hovhannisyan: ECOSOC must adapt to global challenges

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres discussed pressing global issues, emphasizing the growing importance of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Hovhannisyan shared details of the meeting on his Facebook page.

“Our discussion focused on the work of the Council and its increasing relevance in today’s complex global environment, especially in the context of ECOSOC’s 80th anniversary.

I highlighted the need for effective coordination, the importance of biodiversity in promoting sustainable development, and the specific needs of countries in special situations, including landlocked and middle-income nations.

We also examined how ECOSOC can strengthen its role and better unify the UN system to ensure greater accountability and real impact in support of member states’ priorities,” Hovhannisyan wrote.
