Zvartnots, Shirak Airports see surge in passenger traffic![]() February 3, 2026 - 18:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan announced that both of Armenia’s international airports—Zvartnots in Yerevan and Shirak in Gyumri—registered passenger growth in 2025. According to him, the combined growth rate across both airports was around 7.5%, with Shirak Airport alone recording a 32.4% increase, as reported by 1lurer.am . “This growth is primarily a result of government policy, especially the route-based subsidy model, which Wizz Air responded to. As you know, several new routes have launched, including from Gyumri to European destinations,” said Khudatyan. He added that the government will continue promoting expansion in air travel, with a particular focus on increasing activity at Shirak Airport. Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport plans to double its terminal size over the next 10 years, with a $500 million investment. Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision. Kerobyan has said that for the first time in the history of Armenia, the volume of foreign direct investments amounted to about $1 billion. Partner news |
