Georgia aims to complete border highway projects by 2030![]() February 9, 2026 - 15:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that by the end of 2030, construction on nearly all major sections of the highway linking the Turkish border to the borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan will be completed. According to him, the Georgian government’s goal is to fully leverage the country’s strategic geographic position by developing the infrastructure necessary for transit transportation, as reported by Armenpress. “We aim to maximize the potential of our country’s strategic location, and one of our key objectives is the development of transport infrastructure and transit functions,” Kobakhidze said. The prime minister noted that significant investments are currently being made in this sector. “Our plan is to complete almost all major segments of the route from the Turkish border to the borders with Azerbaijan and Armenia by the end of 2030,” Kobakhidze emphasized. According to Georgian news outlet Sputnik, the 2026 state budget includes the completion of the Rustavi–Karmir Kamurj and Algeti–Sadakhlo road sections, which connect Georgia to the borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the Batumi–Sarpi highway leading to the Turkish border is also expected to be finished. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
