Shirak Diocese head to serve house arrest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mikael Archbishop Ajapahyan, Primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has been discharged from Izmirlian Medical Center and transferred to the diocesan residence, where he will serve house arrest. He was accompanied by the center’s director, Armen Charchyan. The archbishop stated that his health condition is now better than before.

Journalists also attempted to ask about his fellow clergymen, but the archbishop did not allow the question to be fully formulated, Factor.am reports.

“I have nothing to say to my fellow servants; they know what they have to do,” Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan said before getting into the car.

He is to be escorted to the Shirak Diocese residence, where he will serve his house arrest.

Responding to a reporter’s question, Ajapahyan noted that he had missed Gyumri.

Since June 2025, Mikael Archbishop Ajapahyan had been in detention, and on February 6 his preventive measure was changed to house arrest.

During his detention, the need for surgery arose, and the medical intervention was carried out at Izmirlian Medical Center. Ajapahyan was charged over a statement made in 2024, allegedly calling for the seizure of power.
