MP warns of passport issuance delays before elections

PanARMENIAN.Net - Artsakh Armenians are raising concerns over delays in the process of obtaining Armenian citizenship, National Assembly member Garnik Danielyan wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, especially ahead of elections, “the creation of such artificial obstacles is unacceptable and raises suspicions.”

“On a daily basis, I receive letters and phone calls from our compatriots regarding the timeframes for obtaining passports, including ID cards. The issue is that even after booking an appointment, it is possible to receive or renew a passport only months later, which has caused justified frustration among our compatriots.

Addressing the issue repeatedly, we have noted that the system is overloaded and that concrete steps are needed so that especially residents of the capital are not forced to make appointments in the regions of Armenia just to slightly reduce waiting times.

I am confident that finding a solution and properly serving such a relatively small population is not a complex issue. In the case of such unprecedented queues, passport offices could be expanded and staff increased,” the post states.

Danielyan noted that he has submitted written inquiries to the relevant authorities seeking clarification of the issues described.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
