Pashinyan says Armenia ready to open transit corridor

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia is prepared to provide a route for trucks traveling from Turkey to Azerbaijan and vice versa, and the necessary infrastructure is fully ready, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said while answering questions at the Polish Institute of International Affairs. He noted that the Armenian side is awaiting Turkey’s decision.

He added that there is positive dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, Aysor.am reported.

The prime minister elaborated that meetings and consultations have been held regularly, although the land border remains closed.

“Of course, the most important development we hope to see is the establishment of official diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey and, naturally, the opening of the land border. A process is underway, and I am convinced that we will see something very soon. At the very least, the atmosphere in our relations is very ready for this,” Pashinyan said.

He stressed that the Armenian side has not had any problem regarding this issue.

“The impression is that there is a general understanding that this should happen, but it depends on Turkey’s decision, because we are ready to do it at any moment. We have said that even today we are ready to provide a route for trucks traveling from Turkey to Azerbaijan and from Azerbaijan to Turkey. The infrastructure is fully ready, and we are waiting for Turkey’s decision,” he stated.

Yerevan and Ankara issued a statement in December 2021 expressing readiness to take steps toward normalizing relations. In 2022, representatives of the two countries agreed in Vienna to open the border to third-country nationals and to begin direct cargo flights, but these agreements have not yet been implemented.

In September 2025, Serdar Kilic visited Armenia. The Armenian Foreign Ministry reported that the sides discussed steps to implement the agreements reached on July 1, 2022, and agreed to accelerate the process.
