Homeland withdraws from June parliamentary elections![]() February 27, 2026 - 16:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Homeland party will not take part in the parliamentary elections scheduled for June, the party said in a statement. The decision was adopted at a February 26 meeting of the party’s executive body, where Armenia’s domestic political situation, existing internal and external challenges, and developments characteristic of the pre-election period were discussed in detail. The statement notes that an increase in the number of opposition forces participating in the elections could lead to fragmentation of voters’ ballots and inefficient distribution of political resources. The statement reads: “Noting that: A change of power is a top priority stemming from the state’s strategic objectives, and its justifications and reasons have been presented for years. Acute domestic political tension continues to persist. The political field remains polarized, lacking a genuinely unifying state ideology and a clear value-based axis. Mechanisms of legal and moral accountability toward state institutions in practice do not ensure effective checks and balances. Political processes continue to be built on non-institutional logic, hindering the possibility of sustainable state development. The ideological foundations, program priorities and strategic vision for Armenia’s future held by the Homeland party differ from the approaches of other forces operating in the political field, making the formation of an alliance unrealistic. An increase in the number of opposition forces participating in the elections may cause fragmentation of voters’ ballots and inefficient allocation of political resources, which under the above conditions could negatively affect the results of the upcoming electoral process. Summarizing the above, with the aim, on the one hand, of contributing as much as possible to the consolidation of opposition votes, and on the other hand, of refraining from forming artificial alliances and/or unions lacking an ideological basis, the party’s executive body has decided: not to participate in the parliamentary elections expected in 2026, to urge party members, sympathizers and supporters in the upcoming parliamentary elections to cast their vote for any of the genuine opposition forces according to their own preference, to consistently continue the development of the Homeland party across all areas of party-building. At the same time, we inform that questions related to this decision will, if necessary, be addressed after the election results are summarized, proceeding from the responsibility not to create, prior to the elections, any condition or opportunity that could harm genuine opposition forces.” Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
