Monitoring center denies reports of toxic rain![]() March 9, 2026 - 15:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - No changes in the acidity or chemical composition of precipitation were recorded in Armenia following rainfall on March 7–8, according to the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center. The agency reported that studies of the precipitation showed no changes in acidity levels or in the anion and cation composition. The center also said that air flows from Iran toward Armenia are not forecast. “In response to certain reports circulating in electronic media about ‘toxic acid rains,’ we inform that the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center conducts qualitative monitoring of atmospheric precipitation at the Amberd observation station. According to the analysis of precipitation that fell on March 7–8, no changes were detected in acidity or in the anion and cation composition of the precipitation. At the same time, from March 9 to 11, Armenia will be under the influence of northeastern air currents, while from March 12 to 20 southwestern flows formed in the Mediterranean basin will prevail. Analysis of atmospheric processes shows that no penetration of air currents from Iran into Armenia is expected in the coming days. The entry of southern cyclones into Armenia’s territory is usually observed from areas of Iraq rather than Iran, and such cyclones reach our region very rarely. Over the next 10 days, air flows over Iran are expected to move from west to east, meaning air masses will shift from Iran toward Turkmenistan. The Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will inform the public if any changes occur. We urge the public to rely only on official information provided by the center,” the statement said.
