Armenia, U.S. ready to sign civil nuclear deal

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia and the United States are ready to sign an agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met in Paris with the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Thomas DiNanno.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Thomas DiNanno welcomed the completion of negotiations on an agreement between the governments of Armenia and the United States on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. They emphasized readiness to sign the document in the appropriate format and to further expand cooperation in this field.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to deepening the strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States in various areas.

The discussion also addressed regional infrastructure projects.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance, after meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said Armenia and the United States had completed negotiations on the so-called “123 Agreement” on civil nuclear energy, opening broad opportunities for implementing large-scale projects. He noted that the deal could involve up to $5 billion in initial exports from the United States, plus $4 billion in support through fuel supply and maintenance.
