Armenia reports progress in EU visa liberalization talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has made tangible progress in its visa liberalization dialogue with the European Union, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan said.

Speaking at a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner, Sargsyan noted that Armenia is currently the only country with which the EU is conducting a visa liberalization dialogue, Armenpress reported.

According to the minister, the dialogue on visa-free travel for Armenian citizens, launched in September 2024, is one of the key stages in strengthening cooperation with the European Union.

“This process is not only about travel opportunities for our country. It includes a broad reform agenda aimed at strengthening our state institutions, improving migration and border management, and enhancing international law enforcement cooperation.

I would also like to remind that since the start of the dialogue, Armenia received the action plan in a record timeframe among comparable countries, which is a highly demanding assessment. As the chief negotiator for the Armenian side, I consider it important to note that Armenia has already achieved tangible progress since the beginning of the dialogue, of course according to our assessments. The Armenian government is fully committed to implementing all benchmarks defined in the EU visa liberalization action plan,” Sargsyan said.

She also added that special mechanisms have been created to ensure effective coordination of the process.

The interior minister stressed that Armenia will continue close cooperation with the European Union and international partners to ensure the successful implementation of the dialogue.

On December 2, 2025, Armenia and the European Union signed a strategic partnership agenda following the sixth meeting of the EU–Armenia Partnership Council in Brussels. The document was signed by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
