Minister highlights growth in sports investment![]() March 16, 2026 - 13:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Funding for Armenia’s sports sector has quadrupled since 2018, reaching 15 billion drams, Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan said in a video posted on Facebook. According to the minister, the increase has been especially significant in mass sports, where funding has grown more than 25-fold to reach 5.5 billion drams. In a related post, Andreasyan also referred to the construction of sports infrastructure, noting that the weightlifting hall named after Olympic champion Simon Martirosyan has already been completed in the community of Jrarrat in Armavir province. Construction is currently underway on several other facilities, including the Greco-Roman wrestling youth school in Gyumri named after Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan and the Hrant Shahinyan Olympic Youth Sports School of artistic gymnastics and acrobatics. A sports school named after boxer Arthur Abraham is also under construction. Authorities also plan to build several additional facilities, including sports schools named after Vic Darchinyan, Roman and Malkhas Amoyan, Stepan Sargsyan and Yuri Sargsyan, as well as a sports complex named after Olympic weightlifting champion Nazik Avdalyan. Armenia’s Narek Manasyan (92kg) won Armenia’s second silver medal at the European Boxing Championships 2024 on April 28. Armenian gymnast, Olympic bronze medalist Artur Davtyan has reached the finals of the World Cup. Gor Manvelyan has denied reports alleging that he has expressed a desire to one day play for the French national team.
