Government extends border housing program to 2027

PanARMENIAN.Net - The government has revised the state support program for housing construction in border communities, expanding its scope and setting a new quota for preferential house construction in border villages. The decision was adopted at a cabinet meeting.

The government has been subsidizing mortgage loans for housing construction in border settlements since 2022, with a maximum subsidy of 16 million drams. Since 2024, the program applied only to the villages of Baghanis, Berkaber, Kirants, and Voskepar in Tavush region, as well as Gomk in Vayots Dzor, reports «Sputnik Armenia».

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the program has moved beyond the logic of border villages alone and now also includes communities near schools under the “300 schools” initiative.

“At this moment, we are financing around 1,400 new houses. Overall, we have opened a quota of about 3,700 houses currently under construction,” he said.

The program has been extended until December 31, 2027, and instead of the initially planned 2,400 beneficiaries, up to 3,820 beneficiaries will be included. It is projected that in 2026 the number of beneficiaries will increase by 1,170, with a monthly growth of about 130 beneficiaries.

The program will apply to beneficiaries who, as of May 1, 2025, have received construction permits or acquired land plots, as well as residents of settlements where previously low application activity was recorded relative to population size and where newly built or existing schools face student enrollment shortages.

To support this, amendments to the 2026 state budget предусматривают an increase of approximately 1.398 billion drams.
