Ex-President says opposition unity will be preserved

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has stated that the Republican Party will not divide the opposition, rejecting accusations of internal fragmentation.

Speaking at the Komitas Pantheon during a visit marking the anniversary of former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan’s death, Sargsyan responded to claims that figures linked to his camp are attempting to split the opposition.

“We will never divide the opposition,” he said, according to Panorama.am.

Commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “there will be war in September, and a disastrous one, if the Civil Contract party does not secure a constitutional majority,” Sargsyan dismissed the remarks.

“They can say whatever they want,” he noted.

Sargsyan also emphasized that no authority has the right to close the issue of return to Nagorno-Karabakh.

He added that a congress of the Republican Party is scheduled for April 4, during which he plans to address all key issues.

Earlier, Pashinyan stated during a March 19 briefing that some political forces advocate revising the peace agenda, which, in his view, could lead to an inevitable war shortly after elections, most likely in autumn, with severe consequences. He had also previously said that the Karabakh movement should not continue.
