Trump warns Iran of devastating strikes

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran it could face devastating strikes if it fails to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz by a set deadline.

Speaking at the White House on April 6, Trump demanded action by 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, threatening attacks on key infrastructure otherwise.

“The entire country can be taken offline overnight, and that night could come as soon as tomorrow,” he said, according to BBC.

Responding to reporters, he added: “They will have no bridges, no power plants. They will be in the Stone Age.”

Trump уточнил, что deadline истекает в 20:00 по восточному времени США (00:00 по Гринвичу, 03:00 по московскому времени).

“By midnight tomorrow, every bridge in Iran will be completely destroyed, and every power plant will cease to function—they will burn, explode, and never be used again. This could happen within four hours if we want. But we do not want that,” he said.

Meanwhile, a new written statement by Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was circulated in the evening. It addressed the killing of Majid Hadami, the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for which Israel claimed responsibility.

Khamenei stated that the loss of commanders—Hadami not being the first since the conflict began—would not undermine the ideological foundations of the IRGC.

Earlier, Khamenei was appointed Supreme Leader about a month ago following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28. Since then, he has issued several written statements but has not appeared publicly, with no photos or videos released. Trump ранее заявлял, что он может быть мертв или тяжело болен, тогда как иранские власти утверждают, что он жив и избегает публичности по соображениям безопасности.

On April 6, Iran and the U.S. received proposals mediated by Pakistan to halt military actions, though conflicting reports have emerged and it remains unclear whether an agreement is possible. Trump said contacts with Tehran continue.

At the same time, Iran’s IRNA agency reported that Tehran has already rejected the ceasefire proposal and insists on a final end to the conflict.

A White House representative earlier said the ceasefire idea was “one of several options” discussed by Trump while military operations continued.

Iran rejected Washington’s proposal for a ceasefire in the conflict involving the U.S. and Israel, according to a document transmitted via Pakistan, IRNA reported.

The response reportedly included ten points, among them demands for a complete end to the war, mechanisms to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and provisions on lifting sanctions and rebuilding the country, according to Deutsche Welle.

“We will agree only to an end of the war with guarantees that we will not be attacked again,” AP quoted Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Egypt, as saying.

Journalist Barak Ravid also reported that Iran’s response contained ten clauses. An unnamed U.S. official described Tehran’s position as “maximalist” and doubted it would advance diplomatic resolution.

Trump also said he was крайне недоволен действиями иранского правительства и что оно «заплатит высокую цену», добавив, что Тегеран не воспользовался предоставленными возможностями.

According to a Reuters source, initial agreements could be formalized as a memorandum of understanding signed electronically via Pakistan as the sole communication channel. A final agreement, including limits on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief, could be reached within 15–20 days.
