Nzhar open to backing impeachment initiative

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nzhar movement may join the impeachment initiative proposed by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), if there is an independent candidate who is not pro-Russian and, most importantly, pro-Armenian, said co-founder Artashes Ikonomov, Panorama.am reports.

According to him, under such conditions it would be possible to act as a united front and achieve victory over the current prime minister.

“The winner will not be us, the winner will be our people, because systemic change is the only approach that can ensure progress,” Ikonomov said.

Human rights defender and co-founder Nina Karapetyants noted that the movement is actively preparing for the elections while simultaneously holding discussions in this direction.

“Impeachment could also take place after the elections. But it is very important that it happens before the elections, because having an independent person as prime minister at the time of the elections, with all levers of power, would ensure that all actors are confident the elections will not be rigged,” she said.

Karapetyants also stressed that despite differing political views, the priority at this stage is to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted as fairly and transparently as possible.

Earlier, the Nzhar and I Am Against Everyone movements announced their unification ahead of the elections, noting that they share largely overlapping goals.
