Health reform boosts medical workers’ salaries: minister![]() April 16, 2026 - 19:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan told parliament that noticeable changes in salaries have been recorded in primary healthcare as of March, following the introduction of the new insurance system, reports 1lurer.am . “We have healthcare workers who received double salaries, and some narrow specialists who received triple or even higher pay. With the introduction of the insurance system, the remuneration principle has changed—staff are now paid based on workload and the number of patients served,” she said. The minister added that medical workers have already adapted to the new system. “We have genuinely good indicators, and these results will continue to improve over time,” Avanesyan noted. Armenia’s universal health insurance system came into force on January 1, 2026. In the initial phase, it covers citizens earning 200,000 drams or more per month, as well as individuals under 18 and those aged 65 and older, regardless of income. For these groups, the state provides 100% funding in 2026. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
