Official reports rise in repatriation to Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Over the past 3–4 years, around 20,000–25,000 diaspora Armenians have obtained Armenian citizenship, most of whom have moved to Armenia, said Hovhannes Aleksanyan, head of the Repatriates Integration Department at the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs.

He noted that Armenian communities are spread across more than 100 countries worldwide and were formed in different periods, with varying levels of organization, 1lurer.am reports.

“At this point, we have more than 200,000 dual citizens who have acquired Armenian citizenship over the past 10–15 years,” he said.

Aleksanyan added that repatriation has been recorded from about 45 countries. Armenians arriving from Russia lead the trend, along with those from the Middle East, particularly Lebanon and Syria.

He also noted that large Armenian communities exist in Russia, numbering about 2.5–3 million people, around 1.5 million in the United States, and approximately 700,000–800,000 in France.
