OSCE PA mission to include 100 observers

PanARMENIAN.Net - OSCE Parliamentary Assembly observer delegation head Eurosema Pejovic has completed a two-day pre-election visit to Yerevan ahead of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections.

According to the OSCE PA, the purpose of the visit was to prepare for the full deployment of observers next month. The findings are expected to guide the Assembly’s observation mission and identify the key features of the political environment, Panorama.am reported.

The OSCE PA observation mission for Armenia’s elections will include more than 100 representatives from over 30 countries.

During the visit, Pejovic held discussions with state institutions, election administration officials, political parties and alliances, civil society organizations, media representatives, as well as members of the election observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights already working on the ground.

“Elections are not just a single day. They are a complex process built by all participants, from the officials organizing them to the civil society groups monitoring them.

“The openness we witnessed over the last two days demonstrates a strong willingness to cooperate with the international community. This preparatory work is vital for our upcoming mission, enabling our observers to provide an independent and constructive assessment that will truly support Armenia’s democratic path,” Pejovic said.

Pejovic will continue close cooperation with special coordinator Farah Karimi of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe short-term observation mission. The initiative represents joint efforts by ODIHR, the OSCE PA, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament to provide a comprehensive assessment of the electoral process.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has accumulated long-standing experience in Armenia, and this deployment marks its twelfth election observation mission in the country since 1995. The continued involvement reflects the Assembly’s commitment to supporting democratic institutions and electoral processes across the OSCE region.
