Hayastan alliance reports unlawful detentions

PanARMENIAN.Net - Members of the Hayastan Alliance election headquarters are being “unlawfully detained and/or arrested for various reasons, including under the pretext of being questioned as witnesses,” the alliance said in a statement.

According to the statement, “since early morning, the law enforcement system has been engaged in actions aimed at obstructing the electoral process.”

“This disgraceful and unlawful conduct is not only an attempt to subject the public to informational terror, but also a gross violation of electoral rights.

We call on observer missions and the Central Election Commission to officially record this fact.

We urge voters not to yield to these unlawful actions and to confidently exercise their constitutional right. Those who organize and carry out these violations face the strictest liability prescribed by law,” the statement said.

Regular National Assembly elections are underway in Armenia. The country’s 2,005 polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. The voter registry includes 2,485,851 registered voters. Polling stations will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

A total of 18 political forces are participating in the parliamentary elections: two electoral alliances and 16 political parties. The electoral threshold is 4% for parties and 8% for alliances.
