EU, Armenia deepen transport cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - During the launch of the Connectivity Agenda Platform in Brussels on June 23, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan discussed issues related to deepening Armenia-EU cooperation, developing joint connectivity initiatives and ongoing processes concerning Armenian air carriers with senior European Commission officials.

The sides also discussed the process of removing Armenian airlines from the European Union’s Air Safety List and cooperation aimed at achieving that goal.

During a meeting between Vahan Kostanyan and Maja Bakran, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, the parties reviewed, among other issues, the agreements reached at the Armenia-EU summit held in Yerevan on May 5 and the progress of their implementation.

In particular, discussions focused on the implementation of the transport component of the Connectivity Partnership document. The sides emphasized the importance of further deepening Armenia-EU cooperation in the field of connectivity, developing sustainable transport infrastructure and advancing projects of mutual interest.

During a meeting with Simon Mordue, the parties highlighted the importance of continuing and expanding bilateral efforts to increase export opportunities for Armenian products amid existing trade and economic restrictions. They also discussed the significance of budgetary support provided by the European Union to the Armenian government.

The interlocutors stressed the importance of high-level political contacts for advancing current agendas and developing new areas of cooperation.

The European Union will provide Armenia with €50 million in immediate assistance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced. She said she discussed Russian restrictions imposed on Armenia during a phone conversation with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to von der Leyen, after Russia introduced restrictions on flower imports from Armenia, a new export route was organized, and the first shipment of 10,000 flowers was scheduled to arrive in Latvia on June 5, with additional deliveries expected to follow.
