COP17 planning presented at Aarhus session

PanARMENIAN.Net - From June 24 to 26, Mari Chakryan, legal adviser at the Ministry of Environment and Armenia's national coordinator for the Aarhus Convention, participated in the 30th meeting of the Convention's Working Group of the Parties. During the session, she presented preparations for hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), as well as efforts to strengthen transparency, public participation and inclusive environmental governance.

She also outlined measures aimed at ensuring broad stakeholder engagement and balanced participation throughout the COP17 preparation process.

Chakryan stressed the importance of cooperation between the Aarhus Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity, emphasizing the role of participatory decision-making at the international level.

The session's agenda also included discussions on national consultations regarding ratification of the Aarhus Convention's GMO amendment, as well as the results of a recent study visit conducted under the EU4GreenRecovery programme.

As the host country of CBD COP17, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparent, inclusive and participatory biodiversity governance, guided by the principles of both the Aarhus Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
