Armenian wrestler claims U17 world bronze in Baku

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ararat Avetisyan of Armenia won a bronze medal in the 48 kg category at the World Under-17 Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships being held in Baku.

The Armenian wrestler defeated Hungary's Benedek Tombor 8-0 in the bronze medal match, securing victory before the end of regulation, according to Factor.am .

Avetisyan began his campaign on July 27, defeating opponents from Mexico (14-7) and Uzbekistan (9-3) before losing 1-4 to Kazakhstan's Ali Almas in the semifinals.

During the championships in Baku, Garik Khachatryan, head coach of Armenia's national team, assessed his team's performance and the organization of the tournament in an interview with Azerbaijani media, according to Factor.am .

"Today we have one finalist and one bronze medalist. In addition, one of our wrestlers finished fifth. Tomorrow, two more of our wrestlers will compete for places in the final," he said.

Khachatryan also commented on the level of organization and the changes he observed in Baku.

"I was in Baku when I was 20 years old. I competed here as a wrestler. But it was completely different back then. Baku has developed significantly. This sports arena is also very beautiful," he said.
