Pendency in NKR conflict settlement hampers economic development in the region

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey have a historical opportunity to settle relations and establish peace in the region, MG OSCE US Co-Chair for NKR conflict settlement, Matthew Bryza stated. According to him, pendency in NKR conflict settlement hampers economic development in the region.

US diplomat noted that NKR will be given a transitional status, with final status to be resolved on via referendum. "During referendum, a balance between RA and Azeri population will be observed in accordance with last population census," Bryza emphasized.

According to last USSR population census, 75 % of Armenians and 23 % of Azerbaijanis resided in Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Region in 1989.
