Armenian Parliament Speaker and EU Special Representative discussed RA-Turkish relations

PanARMENIAN.Net - On Thursday, January 21, Armenia's National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby.

Parties discussed the current stage of Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process. Armenian Speaker expressed hope that Turkey will remain committed to the Protocols signed in Zurich on October 10, 2009.

Mr. Abrahamyan also briefed the guest on Protocol ratification process, stressing that Armenian side strictly follows established procedures.

At that, he noted that, "Turkish side should be consistent in its efforts towards the ratification and implementation of Protocols, refraining from actions that could harm the process,"

The Protocols aimed at normalization of bilateral ties and opening of the border between Armenia and Turkey were signed in Zurich by Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on October 10, 2009, after a series of diplomatic talks held through Swiss mediation.

On January 12, 2010, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia found the protocols conformable to the country's Organic Law.
