Armenia may become leading oncology medicine center in the region

The National Competitiveness Fund of Armenia Board of Trustees held a meeting from 13 to 14 February in Yerevan under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan. As Bekor Papazyan, NCFA Executive Director told a briefing at the Government of Armenia, a project aimed at oncology medicine development in Armenia is under preparation now. "Preliminary calculations have been made: the acquisition of the cyclotron will require about 11 million euros, and the entire sphere of oncology of Armenia, will require 35-40 million euros of investments, including acquisition of equipment, personnel and buildings maintenance,” he said .



Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with tumors (cancer). A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist.



Cyclotron cyclic accelerator nonrelativistic heavy charged particles (protons, ions), in which the particles move in a constant and uniform magnetic field, and high-frequency electric of unchanged frequency is used to accelerate them.
