Yesterday policemen beat and broke up 100 journalists that gathered at the «Yeni Azerbaijan» leading party office to express their protest against the leadership attacks on the press. The «Yeni Musawat» newspaper editor-in-chief, the contributor and the chairman of the union of journalists were arrested and taken to police station. «Azadlig» newspaper contributor Ramiz Najafli unmercifully beaten by the police was hospitalized with the brain concussion. Scores of media representatives including women were injured. In connection with this event, «Azadlig» newspaper staff has appealed to the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan to grant political asylum to all of them. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult.
