New Year table to cost about $700 for Armenian families

PanARMENIAN.Net - People in Armenia spend extremely much money to lay the New Year table, the buying craze beginning a dozen of days before the holiday.

To compare, a Russian family spends twice less than an Armenian, although the average salary in Russia is 2.5 times higher while the prices are almost the same.

According to a survey conducted by PanARMENIAN.Net to lay the New Year table an average Armenian family will pay about AMD 246 000 ($680).

Meat products will cost about AMD 66 thousand, with prices for beef rising day by day. Before December 25, the price for beef was about AMD 2500-3000. Now the price is AMD 3200-3700. Cold snacks will cost about AMD 47 000. At that, people hesitate whether to buy local cheese or imported, some sorts of which are less expensive.

The prices for fruits, specifically apples, are steep in 2010. The prices for apples costing AMD 350-500 in 2009, now reached AMD 1000-1400. Grapes cost AMD 600-700 against AMD 300-350 last year. So, in average, fruits and vegetables will cost about AMD 43 000.

Sweets and nuts will cost about AMD 45 000. The same sum is expected to be spent on beverages. According to statistical data, locally produced natural juices are more popular than imported.

Thus, the New Year table will cause a crack in family budget but people do not care. Happy New Year!
