Ecologist, Chairperson of the Association for Sustainable Development of Humanity NGO, Karine Danielyan said that clouds containing radioactive particles emitted after the catastrophe at Japanese Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant will hardly reach Armenia.
Armenia is far from the crippled nuclear plant’s location, while its radioactive emissions are not so strong to reach the country, Danielyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
“However, Armenians are concerned over the possibility that radioactive materials will reach Armenia with home appliances and other goods imported not only from Japan but also neighboring countries,” the ecologist said.
Radioactive clouds have already reached Turkey, passed over Pacific Ocean, America and Europe.
A 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11 knocked out the cooling systems of the Fukushima plant's six reactors - triggering explosions and fires, releasing radiation and sparking global fears of a widening disaster.
