PACE monitoring committee to assess democratic institutions in Armenia![]() September 2, 2011 - 15:31 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - At September 8 Paris-hosted sitting, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) monitoring committee will review a report on functioning of democratic institutions in Armenia. The report was prepared by PACE co-rapporteurs for Armenia John Prescott and Axel Fischer, the head of Armenian delegation to PACE Davit Harutyunyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. On July 19-21, Mr. Fischer paid a 3-day visit to Armenia. On the sidelines of his visit, the co-rapporteur met with Armenian coalition and opposition representatives. Mr. Fischer stressed the importance of the forthcoming parliamentary elections for the democratic development of the country. In this context he called upon all parties to ensure the democratic nature of the elections and to refrain from any actions or statements that could undermine that trust. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
