HOUSE WILL CONSIDER ARMENIAN RESOLUTION ON OCTOBER 17October 13, 2000 - 17:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - 13.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. On October 12 the Rules Committee of the House of Representatives passed a decision that the voting on the Armenian Genocide Bill with the appeal to the US President to qualify the mass extermination of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1923, will be held October 17. The statement by the Rules Committee says that the document calls upon the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide, and for other purposes. On October 12 the Rules Committee has approved the closed rule on the Armenian Genocide, which restricts amendments and changes to the Genocide Resolution. On Tuesday the members of the House will proceed to a one hour debate on the Genocide bill, following which a vote will be taken. The resolution needs a simple majority to be passed. The resolution has been signed by 141 representatives, and an additional 100 have pledged their support. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
