French PM opposed to expediting EU accession for Georgia, Ukraine

PanARMENIAN.Net - French Prime Minister expressed his views speaking against speeding up EU accession for Georgia and Ukraine.

As Francois Fillon stated on the sidelines of Warsaw-hosted Eastern Partnership summit, “though in sympathy with Ukraine and Georgia's expectations, I believe debating over the type of EU relationship with the countries in question would be ineffective at this point.”

“Europe is somewhat weary of the idea of EU expansion. The West cannot help feeling that Bulgaria and Romania's 2007 EU accession was much too premature,” AFP quoted him as saying.

The statement above seemed to crush the hopes of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili who called EU accession a crucial point in development of security of the country.
